01The answer first

In short

Indonesia’s GDP per person is the higher of the two: Indonesia 15,091 and Philippines 10,748 international dollars at purchasing power parity (World Bank Group, 2025).

Indonesia has 2.4 times as many people, and 6.3 times the land area.

Measured as places in each statistic’s own field, the two are furthest apart on livestock production index (189.99 and 90.42, FAO 2022), qualified primary teachers (33.51 and 100, UIS 2024) and firms damaged by extreme weather (2.376 and 18.5, World Bank Group 2023). They are closest on political stability (-0.739 and -0.835, World Bank Group 2025), climate vulnerability (0.431 and 0.43, Notre Dame Global Adaptation Initiative (ND-GAIN), University of Notre Dame 2024) and firms with a bank loan (19.99 and 20.14, World Bank Group 2023).

For 36 of the 382 shared statistics the newest readings describe different years. Those rows print both years and are left out of every comparison above.

Nothing here counts the statistics on which one country is placed higher than the other: such a count would weigh a minor survey question the same as life expectancy. The one overall answer this site gives is the Country Index 2026, below.

08Method

Sources and how to read them

Every value is the newest reading the publisher issued, exactly as each country’s profile prints it: Indonesia and Philippines. A rank is a number the publisher printed; a position · derived is this site’s ordering of one published statistic; a standing is a place in the Country Index 2026.

Where a publisher compiles each country’s latest survey, the two readings can describe different years. Both years are then printed, and the row is left out of every comparison in the summary. How every number on the site is read is set out on the methodology page.
