03The whole field at once
193 countries, one dot each, on one scale — further right is a higher value. Half the countries are above 5.769%; a quarter are above 15.465%, and a quarter below 0.870%. The bar in each row marks that continent’s middle country.
04All 203 ever measured
In order, highest value first. No rank or position is shown: too many countries share the same value for an order to mean anything. Read it beside the renewables column. A country with a low wind and solar share can still run on clean power from dams or geothermal plants, and a small island grid can read high on a very small amount of generation.

Each point is one year from 2000. Most countries sit near zero for the first decade and begin to climb after about 2010, so the slope of the last ten years says more than the level in any one of them.

193 countries were measured in both 2023 and 2024. The field changed from 201 to 193 countries, so a place can move for reasons that have nothing to do with the country itself.

08The measure
This is the share of a country’s electricity generation that came from wind and solar power. Ember compiles it each year from national reporting; it is the fastest-moving part of the renewable share.
What the number is: Wind and solar (% of electricity generated).
What it does not measure
It covers electricity only, not transport or heating, and it leaves out hydro, bioenergy and geothermal power, so a country with a clean grid built on dams can read low here.
09Where it fits
Its part in the Country Index, the statistics whose values line up most closely with it across countries, and others on the same subject.

Context, with no vote
This statistic is published in full under Environment & Sustainability and Energy, but does not help decide any Country Index standing.
Environment & SustainabilityEnergyWhich statistics vote, and why
Where wind and solar electricity is higher, these tend to be higher too.
Where wind and solar electricity is higher, these tend to be lower.
Rank correlation (ρ, from −1 to 1) across countries, on each statistic’s newest edition, out of 188 statistics sharing at least 80 countries with this one. Two statistics that move together do not cause each other.

16 countries share the lowest reading, 0.000%, among the 193 compared in 2024, so no single country is named.
193 in 2024, and 203 at least once across all editions. The number measured varies from 193 to 203 between editions.
This site does not calculate a world average, which would depend on how countries are weighted. In the middle country of the 193 compared in 2024, the figure was 5.769%.
No ranking is shown. Ember publishes values only, and too many countries share the same value for an ordering to mean anything, so none is derived.
