The spread
222 countries, one dot each, on one scale — further right is a higher value. Half the countries are above 3.48; a quarter are above 32.25, and a quarter below 0.00. The bar in each row marks that continent’s middle country.
04All 222 ever measured
Every country
In order, lowest value first. No rank or position is shown: too many countries share the same value for an order to mean anything. It is averaged over land, not over people, so an empty desert interior counts as much as a city. Many countries never reach 35°C and share the bottom of the table at zero. A high figure is a fact of the climate a country faces, not a judgement of how it is run.

08The measure
About days above 35°C
This counts the days in a year when the temperature climbed above 35°C, averaged over a country’s land, from a reconstruction of the world’s weather since 1950. Heat at that level strains bodies, crops, power grids and outdoor work, so it is a plain measure of how much dangerous heat a country is exposed to.
What the number is: Days a year with a maximum temperature above 35°C, averaged over the country’s land.

Days above 35°C: questions and answers
Which country has the lowest days above 35°C?
71 countries share the lowest reading, 0.00, among the 222 compared in 2025, so no single country is named.
Which country has the highest days above 35°C?
Mali, at 222.89, among the 222 countries compared in 2025.
How many countries does the Days Above 35°C cover?

Is this World Bank Group (Climate Change Knowledge Portal), from Copernicus ERA5 (ECMWF)’s own ranking?
No ranking is shown. World Bank Group (Climate Change Knowledge Portal), from Copernicus ERA5 (ECMWF) publishes values only, and too many countries share the same value for an ordering to mean anything, so none is derived.
How often is the Days Above 35°C published?
This site holds 76 editions, describing 1950 to 2025.
Where does the data come from, and can I download it?
From World Bank Group (Climate Change Knowledge Portal), from Copernicus ERA5 (ECMWF), under CC BY 4.0. The World Bank’s Climate Change Knowledge Portal, which averages the Copernicus ERA5 reanalysis over national borders and publishes the result to two decimals. How this page reads the numbers
- No rank or position is shown: World Bank Group (Climate Change Knowledge Portal), from Copernicus ERA5 (ECMWF) publishes values only, and too many countries share the same value for an ordering to mean anything.
- Which end is better follows the publisher’s own reading of the measure.
- A country is named at an end only when it holds that value alone. Where several share it, the page says how many and names none first.
- Values are stored exactly as published and trimmed only for display. “The middle country” is the median of the countries measured, not a world average.
The file itself, column by column — where it came from, what each column holds, and every edition as a CSV — is on its dataset page.
