35 reference years (1991–2025), covering 182 to 187 countries, produced by the ILO and pulled through the World Bank’s indicator API (SL.UEM.TOTL.ZS). The share of the labour force without work but available for and seeking it. ⚠ MODELLED estimates, not each country’s own headline figure: the ILO harmonises to a single definition so that 187 countries can sit in one table, which is the only way a cross-country comparison of this measure can be honest — and it means the number here will not always match the one a national statistics office publishes. ⚠ THIS ENTRY USED TO SAY THERE WAS ONLY ONE EDITION (2025), and blamed the World Development Indicators release for it. That was wrong, and the correction is worth recording: the World Bank API silently truncates certain series when no date range is requested, and this was one of them.
