18 reference years (2004–2021), covering 209 countries every year - a complete panel, unusually. The figure counts homicides, conflict deaths and killings during legal intervention together, per 100,000 people, so unlike the UCDP death counts it IS a rate and small countries are comparable with large ones. ⚠ THE DATABASE STOPS AT 2021. The 2023 update is the newest the Small Arms Survey has published despite describing the database as updated annually, so the most recent reading here is several years old. ⚠ THERE IS NO UNITED KINGDOM. The Survey reports England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland as three separate rows under invented codes and publishes no UK total; combining them would need population weights the file does not carry, so the UK is absent rather than estimated. ⚠ Ten small dependencies in the source (Mayotte, Réunion, Anguilla, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Montserrat, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, French Guiana, the Cook Islands and Niue) have no entry in this site’s country registry and are not imported. ⚠ No rank is published, so none is stored; the POSITION shown on the statistics page is derived here by ordering the score, and labelled as ours.
