Foundational ID Ownership

3 years, 2017–2024 · 120 countries · 3 measures

This is the share of adults who say they own a foundational ID — a national identity card or similar document that proves who they are — from the World Bank's ID4D programme, asked in the Global Findex survey. An ID is often what a person needs to open a bank account, register a SIM card, receive benefits or vote, and the Sustainable Development Goals call for legal identity for all.

This site holds every year from 2017 to 2024, read from World Bank Group (ID4D)’s own data and stored exactly as published.

Rounded by this site

Never. Tables on screen may show fewer decimals; the files never do.

Changed by this site

Reshaped into one row per country: regional and income-group totals are left out, only the columns listed are kept, each row gets its ISO 3166 code, and some country names are brought to one spelling. No value is recalculated, rescaled or rounded.

From World Bank Data360 (ID4D Global Dataset), one file per survey wave. Female and male shares are the Bank's own.
