24 reference years (2001–2024), covering 155 to 157 countries, from FAOSTAT's Suite of Food Security Indicators, with protein availability and supply-against-requirement stored beside it. It is a nutrition measure that works for rich and poor countries alike, because it is not a count of deprivation. ⚠ IT IS SUPPLY, NOT INTAKE: it measures the food available at retail, before household waste and before any question of who within a country gets it. A country can have an ample supply and widespread hunger, which is precisely why undernourishment is measured separately. ⚠ MORE IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER — a supply far above requirement is over-nutrition rather than achievement — but the bottom of this table is where the meaning is, which is why a higher figure sorts first. ⚠ A THREE-YEAR AVERAGE, labelled by the MIDDLE year of its window, matching the World Bank's convention for the FAO food security series already on this site. ⚠ The sheet row asks for protein availability too; it is a column here rather than a separate indicator, because the two come from the same survey window and are read together. The FAO ranks nobody, so no rank is stored; the POSITION is derived here and labelled as ours.
