Poverty Severity (Squared Poverty Gap) at $3.00 a Day

Poverty severity — the squared poverty gap — measures how deep poverty runs below $3.00 a day while giving the most weight to the very poorest. Each poor person’s shortfall is squared before it is averaged, so a country where a few people are extremely poor reads worse than one where many sit just below the line.
