21 reference years (2006–2026), covering 160 to 171 economies, read from UNCTAD's own US.LSCI bulk file on UNCTADstat. It measures how well connected a country is to the global liner shipping network — the number of operators, services, vessels and container capacity calling at its ports — and is the only maritime-trade measure on the site. ⚠ THE SERIES IS QUARTERLY AND THE SITE IS ANNUAL, so each edition is the LAST QUARTER UNCTAD published that year, stored unchanged; every row names its quarter. Averaging the four would have invented a number UNCTAD never published and left the rank with nothing to agree with. ⚠ THE ROUTE CHANGED ON 2026-09-12, replacing the World Bank's copy (IS.SHP.GCNW.XQ), which froze at 2021. UNCTAD's own file runs to the current quarter, carries more economies, and publishes A RANK the Bank never passed on — so the position on this page is now UNCTAD's own, not ours. ⚠ UNCTAD ALSO REBASED THE INDEX, from "maximum 2006 = 100" to "average Q1 2023 = 100". Every value therefore differs from what this site stored before and the two scales are not comparable; the rebasing is the publisher's, nothing here is rescaled. ⚠ A landlocked country has no score at all rather than a zero, so the country count is a coastal-world count and the missing rows are not gaps in the data.
