50 reference years (1971-2024), covering 84 to 156 countries, produced by the UNESCO Institute for Statistics and pulled through the World Bank indicator API (SE.SEC.ENRR). ⚠ This is a GROSS ratio, so it can legitimately exceed 100%: it divides everyone enrolled in secondary school, at any age, by the population of official secondary-school age, and repeaters and over-age pupils push several countries well past 100 (Monaco is at 158 in 2024). A figure above 100 is therefore not an error and does not mean universal enrolment. ⚠ There is a five-year hole from 1995 to 1998 - UNESCO reported too few countries in those years to publish, so the trend line has a real gap rather than an interpolation. ⚠ A statistic, not an index: no rank is published, so none is stored; the POSITION shown on the statistics page is derived here by ordering the score, and labelled as ours.
