Foreign Direct Investment Inflows

Foreign direct investment inflows are what foreign companies and investors put into lasting stakes in a country's businesses in a year — new plants, acquisitions, reinvested profits and loans between parts of the same company — shown as a share of GDP so that economies of every size can be compared. It is a flow net of what foreign owners took out, so it can be negative.
