What share of a year’s output a country put into building things rather than consuming them — fixed assets such as roads, plant and housing, plus the change in inventories, which is why the figure can go slightly negative. ⚠ A STRUCTURAL SHARE, NOT A SCORE. A high investment rate describes what an economy is doing with its output, not how well it is doing it, and the ordering here is a reading convention rather than a judgement. Deliberately out of the Country Index for that reason. ⚠ NEITHER END IS BETTER, so this indicator carries no good/bad colouring anywhere on the site and does not feed its topics’ rankings — it is charted on them, not scored by them. ⚠ 58 country-years the Bank records as exactly 0 are treated as missing and not imported — Ethiopia has a 30-year run of them and Venezuela a 21-year one, both flanked by ordinary figures, so they are gaps written as a number. ⚠ These are not 56 published reports — see `restatedByReport`. ⚠ No rank is published.
